About the Owner

A Passion for Electrical Instruction

Shawn became an electrician in his 30s as a second career choice after 20 years in advertising and sales. He secured his Red Seal Journeyman license with most of his apprenticeship experience being in industrial mining and lumber mills.

He then joined the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union, where Shawn became recognized for his experience in industrial maintenance and his eagerness to share his knowledge and experience with apprentices and other journeymen. This led to his becoming the training coordinator for the local IBEW training centre, where he taught motor controls and started development of a fire alarm course.

In March of 2019, the pandemic found Shawn unable to continue teaching and after several months, the decision to get his master electrician license became his priority.

Later that year, Lakehead Electric Ltd was founded in October 2020 by Shawn and his wife Michelle on the Fort William First Nation.

Shawn remains passionate about introducing youth to the electrical trades, and administers pre-apprenticeship training courses in partnership with colleges and local training organizations.

He is currently completing his Fire Alarm Technician license and plans to offer Fire Alarm installation, maintenance and verification services in Thunder Bay. His ultimate vision is to become a community training resource for the electrical and fire alarm industry.
